I've done what you did with my daughter in terms of telling her she should tell me or her dad, I've also told her not to be afraid to tell another responsible adult. In my opinion the best thing you can teach your children is the realities of the times we are living in and hope that they make positive choices based on the fact that you have tried to teach them the right way.
