Desperately seeking a pampering

Source
Since becoming a mum I feel I've let myself go. I don't have the time to preen and style myself as I would like. My wardrobe is basic but functional, my make up bag is woeful. Eyeshadow, lipgloss, some foundation type shine control stuff and mascara. I told you it's woeful. No change there really. I've never been one for makeup, but that is slowly changing.

I've never been a woman whose pampered herself with mani, pedi's, massages and the like either, (I was more into healthy eating and working out) but now I don't have the freedom to indulge in these pastimes I regret not taking more interest when I had the chance.

It's hard to remember what I actually did pre children. All those free evenings, weeks and months seem to have been wasted on things I'm not even sure of anymore. What I am sure of, is these days I have little time for myself and this fact is somewhat irritating.

I would like to start working out properly again and maybe investing in some spa dates to help me relax and feel at one with myself. Often I feel quite rushed and uptight which inevitably leads to a tension headache or me just feeling on edge, which subsequently means I'm below par for long periods of time.

As a mum I'm finding it hard to get the right balance between family time and 'me' time, but I know it's something that needs to change for my own wellbeing.

What do you do to unwind? And how do you fit it all in, if at all?

As I'm not a Mum I can't really answer your question but I just wanted to say thank-you for this post. It made me stop for a moment to put things into perspective and realise that there is a time for everything and I should follow my own mantra of 'enjoying the now', instead of desperately wanting the future to happen.

Book that spa day though luv, you deserve it! X x

Hiya Nicola, It seem that as humans we always long for what we don't yet have, instead of enjoying and being thankful for what we do. It's something I really struggle with, but I guess I should stop beating myself up and try to balance things a little better so I am able to look after 'me'. Time to start looking for spa dates ; )

Thanks for commenting, and I'm glad my post has given you some perspective. I'm sure the pitter patter of tiny feet will be heading their way to you soon, so enjoy your exclusive 'me' time whilst you can xxx

Yes, yes and yes ladies! ;)
There is ALWAYS time, we just have to make a conscious effort to make it sometimes. I am not a mum but I am guilty of this too. My best friend has 3 young children and she manages to do this by scheduling pamper dates or 'me date' in the diary in advance and at regular intervals and is rigid at sticking to them. Lets face it I am sure hubby to be and kiddies would much prefer a relaxed mummy than an uptight one!
As for make up, lots of make up artists offer lessons these days at reasonable prices. You could also try going to a Mac or Bobbie Brown section in a department store and having a free mini make over and take away some tips on applications and alternative products that suit you. :)
Whilst we have good health and air in our lungs there is ALWAYS time! ;) xxx N

I am not a mother but I think unwinding doesn't necessarily have to be bubble baths, mani's and pedi's! Unless you like them of course =)

Just doing something you enjoy, such as reading, riding a bicycle or baking can be enough to unwind a little =)

I think you could find something to add into your daily life that can keep stress levels down.

I enjoy reading. I find blogging relaxing. I also like going out for a coffee and just getting my mind together. xx

Nova thanks for the comment. It's definitely all about making time and that is something I will most certainly be working on. Happy mummy, happy family indeed xx

Thanks for the comment Sieta and you are right, relaxation comes in all forms.

For me, a spa, good food and a massive pampering session is precisely what I need. Hope to achieve this pretty sharpish : ) x

Ps I find blogging really relaxing and cathartic too x

It's only now that my little prince is reaching that 1 year mark that I have really begun to think about me time. I'm looking forward to being around my mum and family in Barbados, especially because I'll have babysitters on tap. Now that your youngest is 1 and becoming more independent jump on that me-time bandwagon and grab a spa day with both hands! There are some good deals that pop up on groupon now and again x

Mumma G, that one year mark definitely seems to open you up to wanting to focus more on yourself again that's for sure.

Sorry to confess, but I'm still über jealous of your forthcoming holiday LOL. Not to worry, my time will come. Can't wait to read your blogs when you're out there. That's if you're able to of course : )

On the pamper front, my lil sis and I have found some good spa deals, so will be indulging very soon. Plus we're toying with the idea of a weekend to Spain...needs must and all that x
